Lodge

The Turneffe Island Lodge enjoys the peaceful setting of a private island located 30 miles off the mainland of Belize in the Western Caribbean and has gorgeous views of our beautiful white sand beaches and the Caribbean Sea.

Their packages include accommodations in our superior lodge rooms. They have four lodge buildings with multiple rooms. Each room has a private bath and shower, air conditioning, and ceiling fans. Rooms with two beds are also available upon request. To ensure your added comfort, all windows have screens and may be opened to enjoy the ocean breeze.

Private Cabanas

Along the southern coastline of our island, the Turneffe Island Lodge has eight private cabanas that have been designed and constructed to maximize the Caribbean experience.

Each unit is located on the oceanfront and is nestled between the coconut palms lining this side of the island. The interior of each cabana from floor to ceiling is constructed from Belizean mahogany, known as some of the finest in the world.

The cabanas have been designed with over-sized windows and screened porches to allow for spectacular views.

Dining

Like all of the buildings on the island, the dining room and lounge is located along the oceanfront. You'll enjoy spectacular array of Belizean, Caribbean, and continental cuisine during your stay.

Three full meals are served each day, including a hot breakfast, at set times in our dining room. Snacks are available throughout the day and hors d'oeuvres are served prior to dinner. Meals are served family style and dinner includes appetizer, entree, and dessert. Meals that you may never forget include Snapper with Lemon Nut Crust, Coconut Shrimp, Fillet of Beef, or Grilled Lobster.

Fishing

The Turneffe Atoll stretches 30 miles to the north and is 10 miles wide. It encompasses over 200 mangrove islands and countless creeks and streams that provide shelter and food for a wide variety of game fish.

The lodge is the original fishing lodge on Turneffe Atoll and is surrounded by an extraordinary marine eco-system that is home to millions of baitfish, crabs, shrimp and small aquatics that serve as the first link in the undersea food chain.

Bonefish - Whether you are wading or your guide is poling the flats, large schools of bonefish are a common occurrence along the miles of hard coral and soft grass flats on either side of the southern end of Turneffe Atoll.

Due to the limited tide change and the near constant water temperature, the bonefish population remains stable throughout the year. Many flats hold resident bonefish that will tail in the deeper water that is scattered along the inside reef flats.

Reef Fishing - Due to the pristine waters and the healthy marine environment, Belize is home to a large variety of game fish, including Cubera Snapper, Grouper, Crevalle Jack, and King Fish.

Whether you are using conventional tackle or bait, locating these prizes is a mere 10-minute ride from the lodge to the reef that encompasses Turneffe Atoll.

Fishing along the reef with your guide in Dolphin skiffs provided by the lodge is an option available to you at no additional cost.

Fishing Guides and Schedules - A typical day is 8 hours of fishing. The guides have the opportunity to vary those hours depending on weather and pre-breakfast or post-dinner tarpon fishing.

Your guides will be at the dock at 8:00 am and ready to leave for fishing at 8:30 am. He will load your gear in the boat along with plenty of cool water, any special drinks you've ordered and a delicious lunch if you are planning to stay out all day. Lunches are every day in the dining room and many guests enjoy coming in for lunch and getting out of the sun for an hour or so. Many of the most productive fishing areas are not far from the lodge so you won't lose fishing time traveling back and forth for lunch.

Tackle and Rental Equipment
- Make sure you pack a pair of polarized sunglasses with amber or vermilion color lenses, a good hat, sunscreen, and light rain gear for passing showers. Bring thick-soled wading boots or rent them at the lodge tackle shop. Clothing should include long sleeved fishing shirts and long fishing pants for protection from the mosquitoes after a rain. Mosquito repellant can be handy while fishing in the mangroves for snook and tarpon.

Most anglers who travel to fishing destinations are accustomed to bringing their own tackle and except for the on-again, off-again policies of airlines regarding rod tubes; it's not a bad idea to take as much as you can get away with.

If you don't carry it all with you, the tackle shop will have it.
